03/01 Spending my last night at Jeff's. When I return from Palm Springs, I will be staying at the Extended Stay Hotel in Destin, until I leave again for Portland. Then I will return for another week and meet my parents in Phoenix to drive to Tucson for a F-106 reunion. After that, I am not sure what I will be doing, so that means that my priority will be finding a place to rent (hopefully I can find a 6 month lease), since I have not had much luck finding a house. Got my refund from Home Depot, no interest paid, so another disappointment. No mention of it in the sales contract either, so I am stuck.
03/02 - 03/12 In Palm Springs and Seattle with the parents (as well as my aunt and uncle); photos and comments posted to my Facebook account (the desert ws in full bloom!). However, also during that time, Ami and I were in contact several times as I came up with questions about the 630 Emerald situation. It felt good also (since no one else was really looking at it because of the delayed availability) to have the time to think it over. With my previous offers, I was really worried about the fact we had to make offers practically sight unseen to stand a chance of nabbing one, and even then it did not work the prior three times. On the 7th, I had Ami submit an offer. The list was $199K and we offered 190K (right at the price I had originally told Ami that I would not blink over when this first started and I had no idea what valuations were going for...). We left Palm Springs on the 8th and I spent a couple of days in Seattle before returning on the 12th. On the 11th, although not yet locked in, I told them about my plan and efforts.
03/13 - 03/21 With the possibility of having a solution eventually, I wanted to make sure that I could sell the PC house as is if it came down to it. The biggest issue was that I was using the garage and living room for storage. So, I put myself on a wait list for another 10 x 10 storage unit in Niceville, and then started looking at units closer to the new house to eventually transition to. The 10 x 10 came open on the 15th and I arranged to lock it in on the 17th for one half month's rent. Thomas, the manager that Jeff had introduced me to, repriced the two units as a single 10x20 for a little bit of a savings, which was nice. I also found one of my PC friends who had driveway space and said I could keep my Mitsubishi there if I needed to until I had access to the new garage.
03/22 - 03/25 Flew to Portland for the Magic Jam. This was really my first time to get away and think my own magic and I really enjoyed it. I had been too distracted at Daytona to really get into it, and the time at the Castle for my birthday was more about someone else's magic, not mine. I know quite a few of the attendees, so that was bonus. I left Portland on the 24th to connect through Seattle for a Red-Eye into Atlanta. When I checked in, they were accepting "volunteers" for the trip to give up a seat, but we made it out of Seattle just fine.
03/25 It turns out that the leg they were looking for volunteers was the one from ATL to VPS, not SEA to ATL. As I often do, I volunteered and got a $600 gift card, which became a first class, wound trip ticket to Phoenix in July. I was just fine with it too because I was going to have to wait 4 hours in Destin until check in time at the Extended Stay. I had found a nice dark corner in the parking garage at the Destin Mall, so I just got to spend a little less time napping there as a result. Did I mention that the SV package in the Rogue includes tinted rear windows?
03/31 While working at the house, I was approached by another roofing company who was doing some work down the street. They said that they actually had an available engineer who could do the specs to have the replacement truss' built and then could repair the roof. When I explained that I was already under contract but was having problems getting the work done, they offered to contact them and offer their services as sub. I gave them the contact info and said, "Have at it!"
