05/02 Freedom Self Storage called to say they were going to have a 10 x 10 available by the 4th and did I want it or to roll over.  In spite of her thoughts that more would probably open up as we got further along in the military move season, I decided to lock that in.  This way I can start looking for a moving company with some assurance that even if they can't fit all of my remaining property into the 10 x 10 at Spacebox, I now have an alternate plan, although Jeff did volunteer a part of his garage if I needed it.

05/04.  Locked in the storage unit at Freedom.  Unlike Spacebox and Callaway Self Storage, this rooms go up 10 to 12 feet instead of 8 to 10.  I am going to need a step ladder, LOL.

05/07 - 05/15 New Orleans/Seattle.  Photos and Posts on Facebook.  Another chance to get away from all the issues of the new house not being quite right yet.  Decided that since Sunday was going to be Mother's day, I would take a little round trip to Seattle to spend it there before driving back to FWB.  Quite a bit cheaper than a round trip from VPS and I used miles.  Return flight - another bumped flight, another $600.  While I know people who stress over things not going as planned, change is just change, neither good or bad until you filter the experience. Today I have experienced a great deal of change in "plans." After a red-eye to Detroit to connect to where my car is parked in New Orleans, my flight was really early. While usually a good thing (especially when connections are involved), this actually was less than optimum as I got 30 minutes less sleep than planned. Not a big deal; the SkyClub was already open and I found a secluded corner to rest my eyes at least. I walked down to the flight and as I got there, they were announcing they were now offering $600 for a volunteer to take a later flight. So, my only task for the day being the actual drive back from LA to FLA, I walked up to the counter and volunteered. Standard stuff: "we have your name, don't board when you would usually or you will be dropped off the list;" the usual. So I sat and waited (I usually only have my computer bag that fits under the seat, so no problem to board last). At the end of it all, 2 booked passengers did not show up.and they did not need my seat, only one from someone who had volunteered earlier. Oh, well, I did what I could, so I boarded last. As I was waiting in the aisle to get to my seat, I felt a tap on my shoulder. The gate agent had come down because one of those two did actually show up and she wanted to know if I would do a double-take. She even said she would go ahead and book me in First Class for the next flight. Of course, she had me at "$600" but I didn't let on, lol. So, once the paperwork was done, I had an extra 6 hours to kill (DTW to MSY is apparently not a major route for Delta). Instead of going back to the SkyClub, I went to the military lounge that Detroit has put in to support the troops as there are no bases in the area. The Freedom Lounges (one in each terminal) are like USOs but locally funded and best of all, inside of the TSA screened secured area. Unlike the SkyClubs, the mil lounges usually have low key corners with recliners etc. and these were comfortable! I got an extra 4 hours of nap; have an extra $600 in pocket and feel pretty darn good as I now fly in seat 1D to meet up with my bag in New Orleans. Here's to expecting the unexpected, lol.  I used that gift card to treat me to first class on my trip to the Castle for Veteran's week/my birthday.

5/10 Started the process to show Intent to Proceed (which actually starts the loan process - previous paperwork was to "qualify" for the loan)

5/11 Roofer did not provide a Wind mitigation report which is basically certifying that the installation was done to current code, so we asked for it.

5/13 New Survey delivered to title company.  This may actually happen.  Oh, not so fast, roofer did not provide the Wind report, so Ami has suggested I have the inspector who found the initial issues go back and do one, which I agreed to.  Considering all that has happened (and the fact that the roof looks very much the same in drive-by viewings) I figured that $100 for an independent assessment is money well spent.

5/14 Locked in the Mortgage rate at 4.5% which was .25 better than when I first started looking.  I may have been able to get another .25 if I waited as my indicators are showing interest rates decreasing, but that is minor in the monthly payments and I am planning on paying this as if it were a 15 year anyway.  I am putting 20% down (because I can with the settlement, now that I know I am not going to rebuild PC house) to avoid the mortgage insurance on a conventional to save my VA benefits for when I might really need them.

05/16 Wind inspection completed

05/23 We are getting both closer and farther away.  It turns out that although the roof was replaced, they did not yet have a permit for it because the computer spit it back; there was a still open permit (apparently from the last replacement) from 2008.  Contacted (email/voicemail) a mover to get the last stuff out in preparation for sale.

05/24 Professional Moving Services returned my message.  He advised my that he could schedule me for June 1st, OR if I waited, he makes regular trips to Panama City to deliver for Ashley Home furnishing that I could tag onto the return for and only pay the one-way time.  I am fine with that, because I figure I can't sell the house until after I close on the new one, for several reasons.  First off, the Callaway/PC house is in several records in the loan application and I don't want to have to explain how I am "homeless" until I can buy the FWB house/take occupancy.  Second, a cash sale will generate a large deposit, which the credit union will have to justify for the Patriot Act paperwork, so I can save myself having to redo any part of the application.  His next trip was going to be 7 June, but I am going to be in L.A. with Jeff for our Magic Castle visit.  I let him know my return plans (12 June) and asked him to keep me in mind when they do the next one after that.

05/28 The FWB roofer, instead of providing the permit we have been trying to get, provided the Wind-Mitigation report, which the seller's agent didn't think we had.  So, I paid to have the extra inspection done for "nothing" but as I said before, with the overall problems, I was happy to get an independent review anyway.  Still no progress on the actual permit and we close in a week.  We do, however have a Home warranty now as provided by the seller

05/29 The expired permit has been resolved, the new permit now appears in the records and the insurance company is happy.  We have a updated quote but need a few corrections before the mortgage company is happy.

05/30 "Final" insurance quote received, mortgage company is happy.

05/31 Received and "DocuSigned" the Final Closing Disclosure.  Ami and I did a final walk through and discovered that the windows had not yet been replaced (IAW the fixes I specified in the offer).  However, if indeed the seller paid for the roof out of pocket, I am not going to worry about this.  We will get to the bottom of it.  I also measured all of the rooms so I can do some planning for when I can finally get occupancy
