February
02/03 a nice sunny day, so I completely dismantles and cleaned out the refrigerator. I found out about the wonders of white vinegar when I was doing some relief work in Homestead after Hurricane Andrew. The stuff is amazing how it can remove the odors from the appliances. I also lost a filling... Well, I know where it is... My local dentist closed up shop and now I have new coverage (FEDVIP) so time to look for a new one. The tooth is not bothering me, so I will probably see how the house hunting goes to see where I want to be "assigned to."
02/06 Got the garage straightened enough that I am parking the Mitsu in it while I am gone. I noticed that there was some staining on the concrete where it had been standing for a while, so I bought a shop floor pan to park it over.
02/09 Decided that my Honda Pacific Coast motorcycle was (at least for the foreseeable future) another candidate for "too much stuff." I had set it aside over 2 years ago, partially disassembled, to rebuild the carburetor, but had never got back to it. It took a lot of the storm as it was under where one of the roof panels blew off in the garage, no real damage, just leaves and dirt and water because the trunk was open. I decided to clean it up and will advertise it as is.
02/14 Valentines day did not get off to a good start. I got a call from Home Depot headquarters in Atlanta saying that they that they were getting out of the siding/roofing/window installing business altogether (everywhere) and that my order was cancelled. And this after I had already been contacted by their sub. Apparently they oversold and overestimated their capability. I am not going to play the "woe is me" card but I can not express just how disappointed I currently am for not just me but for the countless others this will affect. Now time for plan B (what ever that is - back to practically square one), I just know that I will never be setting foot in one again; getting my deposit back with interest is not going to fix the holes in my walls... I called the siding subcontractor (Heywood) and left a voice message.
02/15 Siding guy called back, with Home Depot dropping the contract (they tld him a week before they told me) he was scheduled so that it will be at least a 6 month wait. Oh Joy. I am going to be patient with the roofer, but this has pretty much turned my plan B (buy a house in Niceville/FWB) into Plan A. In any case, I would like to have a roof and siding on the place so I can decided whether to hold on to it until work can be done or sell it "as is." I am seeing a lot of "we buy houses for cash" signs and have started taking numbers,,, My life motto has become - EDIANA (Every Day is a New Adventure)
02/16 - 02/28 Spent the days moping a bit ("woe is me" doesn't really work for me...) but tidying up both the house and the guest room. Jeff's father Tom will come into town for March to take advantage of Spring Break with the girls, so I need other digs. Since landfall, I have cancelled plans for many trips, like 3 of clubs in Seattle, Magi-Fest in Columbus, the IBM Mid year meeting in Scottsdale, Cavalcade in Arkansas, etc. However, I told myself I will not cancel trip opportunities with family, just like my birthday trip (albeit cut short) in November, nor will I allow Michael to become an excuse to avoid long term personal commitments like the ones I have made for Portland Magic Jam in March to support Greg Moreland or to the IBM convention in Scottsdale in July. In early March, I will join my parents in Palm Springs and need a place to stay when I return. However, I also realize that, for what rent will be, I could spend a lot of time on the road for just about the same costs. Hmm...
